Course Description:


At this multi-level workshop beginning teachers will learn how to introduce Java programming concepts along with teaching techniques for many topics. The focus will be on teaching Object Oriented Programming with the GridWorld Case Study throughout the curriculum. Various syllabi will be presented both for teachers who use a one-year or two-year approach to teaching AP Computer Science.
Experienced teachers will focus on advanced topics, such as polymorphism, understanding deep values, shallow values and aliasing, redefining toString and equals, ArrayList, TwoD Arrays, algorithms and recursion. There will also be a strong focus on learning to use a special set of quizzes that dramatically improve performance on the free response section of the AP Exam.
For teachers who have started or want to start using Lego Robotics integrated in their corriculum, a large variety of Lego lab assiognments will be available that can be used hands-on with the robots. A new curriculum that integrate Lego with robotics will be presented as well.
The workshop is conducted in a large facility that will allow multi-level sections to work on separate projects simultaneously.
